Bushwig is an award winning two-day queer music & performance festival at Knockdown Center, Queens.
The Bushwig festival of Drag, Music & Love is committed to fostering innovation and creativity in performance. Our mission is to provide a space to showcase new talent, as well as build community focused around art and music. Bushwig has grown rampantly since its inception in 2012, each year we have doubled our attendance. Beginning as a one day festival and growing into two full days with satellites in multiple cities, Bushwig continues to expand programming. We like to think our attendees do not just go to a festival, they join a family. We're not just a drag queen festival but a celebration of queer creative New York.
Our mission is to change the face of queer event culture. It's this uniqueness that makes Bushwig a wondrous world of discovery and adventure that will inspire creativity, community, drag, love, music and dancing not only in September, but all year round.
Bushwig takes place between Saturday September 7th and Sunday September 8th at The Knockdown Center – a sprawling warehouse converted into a world class artist gallery, music venue & bar. The center has played host to artists such as M.I.A & DeadMau5.
Doors open at 1PM both days and close at 2am Saturday & 11pm Sunday. Main stage first show begins at 2pm & opens along with BushSwag. The VIP bar opens at 1:30pm. The outdoor stage opens at 1pm.
Bushwig Safer Spaces Policy+-
BUSHWIG will not tolerate racist, sexist, transphobic, homophobic, biphobic, femme phobic, ageist, ableist, fat phobic, classist, xenophobic or oppressive behavior or language of any kind at our festival.
We depend on our queer family and allies to create queer community spaces free from discrimination, violence and hate. There is only room for people who make room for others so we reserve the right to deny space to anyone who breaks these principles.
If you have any doubts that your outfit may offend people, we ask you not to wear it! Be you! (google: cultural appropriation)
Bushwig is intended to be an open space where people feel comfortable to express, and explore their identities, be they clearly defined, or not, sexual, gender or otherwise.
Cashless Payment System+-
The Venue will be using Billfold POS as the payment processing technology at their bars, in order to expedite service. Cash will be accepted as usual, but at entry your event wristband will be an RFID band that you associate with your credit card.
The band can then be used in lieu of your credit card at the bars. Billfold authorizes your card each time you use your wristband, it is not an account that needs to be loaded like a gift card. This means a credit card transaction lasts about 4 seconds at the bar, rather than 2 minutes.
We take your feedback VERY SERIOUSLY and this year we are installing a LGBTQ security that are well versed in dealing with dealing with our community. They will be bag searches so please don’t bring in your booze, glass bottles and fun stuff.
We’ve built another 4 bars - bringing the total to 7. We will be employing a higher ratio to attendees staff to keep things flowing.
